Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information General Mountaineering ("we", "us") collects when you use generalmountaineering.com (the "Service"), how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies together with our Terms of Service.

1. Information We Collect

Account information. Sign-in is handled by Replit, our identity provider. When you sign in, we receive and store your user ID, email address, name, and profile image URL from your Replit account. We never see your password.

Content you create. Gear lists and their items, trip context you add (mountain, route, dates), shared list snapshots, your gear locker, and custom gear items are stored on our servers so they're available when you return.

Feedback. If you send feedback or corrections, we store your message and the page context it came from. If you're signed in, feedback is linked to your account. Guests may submit mountain and route requests without an email; other guest feedback asks for an email only so we can reply.

Session cookie. We set one cookie: an essential session cookie that keeps you signed in. It is not used for advertising or tracking, and we set no other cookies.

Technical logs. Our servers keep short-lived request logs (things like the page requested, response status, and timing) to keep the Service reliable and secure.

Guest drafts. Lists you build without an account are stored locally in your browser, not on our servers. They reach our servers only if you sign in and save them.

2. What We Don't Do

• No advertising, and no data sold or rented to anyone
• No third-party analytics or tracking scripts
• No marketing emails — we only reply when you contact us
• No collection of precise location, contacts, or anything beyond what's listed above

3. How We Use Information

We use the information above to:

• Provide the Service — save your lists, show them to you, and display shared snapshots to people who have the link
• Respond to feedback and corrections
• Moderate content, prevent abuse, and keep the Service secure
• Debug problems using technical logs

4. When Information Is Visible to Others

Shared lists: when you share a list, anyone with the link can view that snapshot — including the list name and trip context you gave it. Your email is never shown on shared pages. Administrators: site administrators can view feedback submissions and stored content for moderation and support.

5. Service Providers

The Service runs on Replit's hosting infrastructure in the United States, and Replit also provides sign-in. Data you store with us lives in a database on that infrastructure. We otherwise share data only when required by law or needed to protect the safety and integrity of the Service.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

Your content stays until you delete it — you can delete lists, locker items, and shared snapshots yourself from your account. To delete your entire account and its data, request it through the contact page and we will remove it within 30 days. Technical logs rotate automatically on a short schedule.

7. Your Rights

Depending on where you live (for example the EU/UK or California), you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information. You can exercise any of these through the contact page — we honor these requests for all users, wherever you live.

8. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes to This Policy

If we change this policy, we will update the effective date above and, for material changes, post a notice on the Service. We will never quietly start collecting more than this policy describes.
